Love, Grandma by Ann Morris is a children’s book. It is also a love letter to cherished childhood memories of the time author spent with her granddaughters Payton and Haley. In this short book, only 20 pages, there is so much love, family bonding moments, games they played, and the connection they build.

I loved the illustrations, and I think that David Gnass did a fantastic job of bringing this story to life. Softer lines and pastel colors suit this story perfectly. Furthermore, the emotion the author tried to convey was very palpable. It was a nostalgic read because it brought me back to my childhood. The reminiscence of happy moments and the love these characters shared made me enjoy this short story.

I wish the author did a better job with the narrative. It is too short of a book for me to overlook it. Sure, the story is told in rhyme. But it is awkward to read, and it doesn’t flow well. As this is a children’s book, I expected the storytelling to be more straightforward and catchier. Furthermore, this book is distinctive for the female gender and specific situation. It makes it relatable and limited to girls only, especially those who had a similar relationship with their grandmother.

I didn’t notice any errors in this book. So, it is easy to conclude that a professional edited this book. For that reason, it doesn’t deserve a lower rating. Nevertheless, because of the previously mentioned reasons, I can’t rate this book with a perfect score. Therefore, I will rate it 3 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend it to parents, teachers, babysitters, and grandparents as a perfect read with their little ones. It is a perfect read for preschoolers, especially girls. When I think about book recommendations, I always think of them being a present to someone. This one makes an ideal gift from grandmothers to granddaughters.
