Louie and the Dictator by Lisa Bournelis is a story about a boy controlled by a voice inside his head. He named that voice the Dictator. Louie follows everything the Dictator says because if he doesn’t, something terrible will happen. As the story goes deeper and his struggles to follow the Dictator become worrisome, Louie’s mother decided to seek help from a mind wizard. With the mind wizard’s help, Louie acquired tools and defense spells to keep the Dictator at bay. However, when Louie’s dog went missing, he fears that the Dictator’s voice will again take over his mind as he searches for his dog. Will Louie use the spells he learned, or will he succumb to the Dictator’s voice?

Louie and the Dictator depicts a boy with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. The story narrates Louie’s struggles and how he learned to cope with his disorder. It is an excellent read for kids to learn about OCD.

The story is a fast-paced novel with many themes incorporated that made the book enjoyable to read. I liked that the author used a child’s imagination to describe what was happening in the main character’s life. For example, the author used the story of King Arthur to depict Louie’s battle against the Dictator.

With all of that said, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I found a few grammatical mistakes, but that didn’t affect my reading experience. There was nothing I didn’t like about this book. It is an excellent depiction of someone with OCD. The storytelling is also magnificent. It’s very informative, all the while written with creative themes that kids would surely love.

I would recommend this book to kids suffering from OCD. I think they would find inspiration in how Louie coped with his struggles. I would also recommend this to children and adults who want to learn about OCD. This book would serve as a great introduction to learning about mental illness.

It'll be interesting to know how Louie will go about looking for his dog. I hope he doesn't succumb to the dictator again. Great review.

This is my first encounter to a children's book discussing OCD. I would really like to read this book to know how the protagonist responded to his illness. Thanks for the wonderful review.
