Review by Hhannahh -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Sn...
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the 7th book in the Inca Cat Detective series, a series about three cat siblings and their animal friends as they tour the world and help their human friends solve mysteries. It is a stand-alone read. The story is narrated by Inca in the form of dairy entries.
In Serendipity Mystery, Mom, the kitties (Inca, Fromage, and Cara), and their hamster, Charlotte, are vacationing on the sunny island of Siri Lanka. In addition to all the fun, relaxation, and extra food, Mom has a couple of exciting and adventurous events planned out for them, including a train ride to a tea plantation and a visit to the timeless ruins of Anuradhapura. At some point in the holidays, mum's friend, Solo, and his dog, Terrance, join them on the island. Solo, who is a private investigator, has been invited by the director of the Colombo Museum to investigate a robbery at the museum. As the head of a detective agency, Inca's curiosity kicks in, and the snoopy cat can't help but get involved in this mystery. Will the animal detectives be able to crack this case?
With beautiful illustrations, captivating characters, and engaging conversations, R.F. Kristi created a book that would delight children as well as educate them; improve their vocabulary and general knowledge. The diction was generally simple but advanced enough for children to pick up a few new words. The story also featured a lot of positive values, including the importance of teamwork, courage, and kindness.
What I liked best in this short read was the little geographical and historical information it contained. Before reading this book, I had neither heard of the ruins of Anuradhapura nor did I know anything about Siri Lanka. Amongst other things, I was pleased to have learned, from a children's book, that Siri Lanka boasts at least eight UNESCO world heritage sites.
I didn't notice any error, so I believe this book was professionally edited. I think this book is best suited for children between ages 5 to 13. There was nothing I disliked about this book; I enjoyed this cute and delightful book, and I'm rating it 4 out of 4 stars.
