Children, especially those aged between six and fifteen years, need memory boost and creativity enhancement. A good book that compels them to think and try solving mysteries is a nice thing to start with. Serendipity Mystery by R. F. Kristi is a fictional children’s book about solving crime mysteries. It is the seventh book in the Diary of A Snoopy Cat: The Inca Book series. Although it’s the seventh book in the series, it can be read as a standalone book. This is the first book I’m reading in this series, and I got everything. This means that a reader shouldn’t worry about the first books in the series.

Inca is a detective cat. Together with his friends who include Terrance, a detective dog, they’ve formed a detective firm called Inca and Company. They have an excellent record in solving mysteries and today, their human mum has taken them on a holiday retreat in Sri Lanka. While there, they had planned to visit several places. Among these places was a particular museum that had a historic sword. While still at a beach in Sri Lanka, enjoying the breeze, words came that the historic sword that they had planned to see at the museum had been stolen. Will Inca and his friends help find this missing sword and other stolen goods before they’re smuggled out of the country?

This book covers the events that took place within one week of their stay in Sri Lanka, from 10th to 17th of June. Just like any diary, every entry into this book has both the date and the time of the events. All the events are written in the past simple tense and from Inca’s perspective. There are several pictorial illustrations that are not only colorful but also informative and relevant to the events.

All the animal characters in this book have been personified. This will make them relatable to young readers, who are the target audience. For instance, Inca’s detective skills are impressive, and most of the young readers will admire him and, to some extent, want to be like him. Several animals such as cats, dogs, elephants, and even the sea turtle working together will give the young readers a sense of unity. This will enable them to freely associate with people from different origins and races, therefore, eliminating discriminations.

This is a well-written book. I didn’t find even a single grammatical error. The language is simple too. This makes it suitable for children between 7 and 12 years old. Since there isn’t anything I disliked, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Although it primarily targets children, young adults will find it amazing too. However, adults will find the mysteries easier to solve.

Sounds like a great and entertaining book for a young audience. The title caught my attention :) It's always good when children's books have relevant and bright illustrations. Thanks for a great review!

We're all philosophers. When there's a tough choice to be made, when faced with the facts of birth, love or death or simply when thinking about what we want to do with our lives.

I agree with your conclusion, and I can even add that not-so-young adults also enjoy it ☺️. Nice review.
