Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is the seventh book in the Inca Cat Detective Series. It is a standalone mystery novel for children ages 7-12 complete with fun illustrations throughout the book. It follows Inca the cat and her family along with newly acquired elephant and turtle friends. In this installment, an ancient sword has gone missing from a museum along with other precious items like gold coins. Inca must work with the clues she has in order to locate the missing artifact and catch the culprits. The reader follows Inca and her detective crew as they investigate, make new friends, work together as a team, and get into mischief.

I consider this book perfect for the intended audience. It is the perfect length for an engaging chapter book. It has entertaining and cute illustrations of all the characters. It is written in a sophisticated and intelligent manner. I think it would be a wonderful book for a parent to read aloud to a child since it has big words such as inquisitive, imminent, and adjacent. I loved this aspect of the book because it gives the young reader an opportunity to learn these big words in the context of an easy to understand story. It is difficult to pinpoint any aspect of the book I didn’t enjoy except I wish it would have been longer so I could read more about the felines’s adventures.

The plot of this book is very straightforward yet entertaining. Each cat has a distinct personality which makes them likable and relatable. I think the element of cats taking over the responsibility of the mystery investigation is compelling to many young readers because it is unique and fun. I’m sure if a child started reading the first book in this series they would eagerly want to continue reading the rest of the installments.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is exceptionally well-written and engaging for young readers. I loved the simple mystery element of it because it begs you to read to the very last page. It also provides some cultural context which I’m sure would be new and interesting for many readers while also showing examples of teamwork and adventure. This book was obviously professionally edited as I didn’t notice any grammatical errors.

I would recommend this book to all readers ages 7-12 who enjoy mystery books or books about animals. I would recommend this book to parents who want their children to be interested and engaged in reading.
