Review by nfdoughe -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Sn...
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R. F. Kristi is a delightful children’s book. Inca, a Siberian cat, is the head detective of her detective agency, Inca & Company. Her brother Fromage, a tabby cat, and her sister Cara, a Siamese cat, are also part of her agency along with their good friend Charlotte the hamster. The four are on vacation with their human mom in Sri Lanka when a valuable sword is stolen from a museum. Inca, being a detective and snoopy cat, decides to take on the case. Joined by friends Terrance, a dog detective, and his human master Solo, a famous international detective hired for the case, Inca & Company sets out to solve the mystery.
This book is the seventh in the Inca Cat Detective Series, but it is easy to read it on its own. In the beginning of the book, there is an introduction to the characters of Inca & Company for those who are not familiar with the series. Throughout the book, the author does a wonderful job of distinguishing each character so there is never any possibility of confusion.
I loved a few different aspects of this book. It was well-written with few errors. The story was constantly fun and well-paced. The characters were memorable, and the level of mystery was well-suited to the audience. I think it’s more fun to read mystery when you can figure out who did it, and kids will definitely be able to follow along with Inca & Company to solve it. I also enjoyed the little facts about Sri Lanka and the animal life and historical sites in the book.
The only part I didn’t like was that not all of the criminals suffered the consequences. I won’t say more than that because I don’t want to give anything away.
Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was entertaining, it was an easy read, and there was very little to dislike about it. I think young children who like mysteries or books about animals would like this story.
