They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and who doesn’t love pancakes? Pancakes Every Morning by Teresa Gibbons is an adorable children’s book that is meant to help children remember their blessings. An actual story isn’t told, but a prayer is said for each of the eight pieces the pancake is cut into. There’s even a spot at the back of the book to draw a pancake and list your blessings.

My favorite part of the book was the illustrations done by Nicolette Pelchat. They’re colorful and add a nice touch to the book. The pictures of the pancakes actually made me hungry!

The book is very simple and doesn’t really tell a story, so it’s hard to find something I didn’t like about it. One very minor thing that bothered me was awkward wording in a few parts. For example, the author rhymes “day” with “day.” It just sounds off when reading it out loud. It’s also a bit repetitive going through the blessings with each bite of pancake. But, that’s the point of the book, so I can’t really fault the author for that.

This book would be best suited for young children. There isn’t an actual story being told, so it’s not meant to entertain, but it would be a good way to remind children of their blessings and what they are thankful for. I think this is a book for parents to read with their children. Since the book is centered around God, this is not a book for people who don’t believe in Him. For those who aren’t super religious, but still believe in God, a parent could still take the idea of the book and help their child come up with a list of blessings.

I would rate Pancakes Every Morning 3 out of 4 stars. I can’t give it a 4 because it didn’t excite me. It was a sweet concept, but it didn’t make me feel anything. I wouldn’t give it a 2, though, because it’s a great idea and I think parents would enjoy reading it with their kids.

Pancakes Every Morning was exceptionally well-edited, and I found no errors. Even if this book doesn’t sound like a book for you, I encourage everyone to take the concept and count their blessings each morning!

Love the concept of the book like you said. I for one appreciate the idea of teaching my kids at such young age to be thankful for all they have and never to take anything for granted.

Gratitiude is an extremely important thing for kids to learn, so I do agree that it's a great book for teaching that. Tying it to food was also very interesting.

This sounds like the perfect book for me to read to my grand doll and allow her to draw a pancake and list our blessings on it. I have recently been talking to her about how she is lucky to have a Mommy that loves her and other such blessings in her life, so I am sure this would add to our discussion.
