Review by fmd1821 -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Sno...
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh book of a delightful series by R. F. Kristi. In this adventure, Inca, a Siberian cat, and her detective team are on holiday in Sri Lanka with their Mom. They enjoy the sun and sea, make new friends, and have a good time, but then something happens. Someone has stolen an ancient sword from a museum, and Inca cannot avoid the temptation to investigate. Meanwhile, one of Inca’s brothers, Fromage, wants to meet the leopards, his “cousins,” and disappears. His sister needs to find him even though it is a deep night.
Serendipity Mystery is not the first book of the series I read, and I am happy I have found here the same high quality of the others. The story revolves around a mystery, which means you have to be active and thinking readers. As this is a children’s book, you have to make a small effort. Inca and her team act in many different situations, and variety and surprise entertain you and keep your attention.
I like that Inca meets exotic animals during her holiday. She befriends elephants, leopards, and a turtle, while she does not trust a dangerous python. Each of these encounters is irresistible. For example, while Inca’s considerations about the elephants make you smile, her fears about the python add some suspense to the story.
I have to add that every member of Inca’s team has a well-defined personality, and each one of them is memorable. Their actions are often amusing, but in the case of Fromage, they can lead to unpleasant consequences.
I have to add that I love the images. Jorge Valle’s colorful pictures show the animals with nice features, even if they are treacherous like the python. Anyway, the best image is that of Inca dressed like a mermaid: I must confess I laughed out loud when I saw it.
Serendipity Mystery is a perfect book, and I have not found any downsides in it except for a couple of typographical errors. However, these are minor flaws and do not affect the reading.
For all these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, and I highly recommend it to every child between seven and ten years of age. However, I can tell you from my personal experience that even adults will appreciate the clever and amusing storyline. Although it is a risky statement, I dare to say that Serendipity Mystery is a book for everyone. If nothing else, it will cheer you up.
