Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is one book of a series of books that explore the adventures of a Siberian detective cat named Inca and her sidekicks who solve crimes and are part of ‘Inca + The Company’. It can, however, be read as a stand-alone. In this book, Inca and her companions go on a holiday in Southeast Asia, where they discover that an antique sword has been stolen from the main museum in Colombo.

As a result of the theft, Solo and his dog, Terrance, who are known for their investigation skills, are invited by the director of the museum to help return the sword. The book discusses the many new characters whom Inca meets and recruits to ‘Inca + The Company’, including an elephant named Meena and a turtle named Rani. Together, they uncover clues and investigate Meena’s suspicious caretaker to track down the thief.

The illustrations in this book were lovely, colorful, and creative. The cover is very attention-grabbing, especially to young readers, and the text, although a bit long, is simple and easy to understand. The book is clearly well-edited since I did not find a single spelling or grammatical mistake, and the plotline is simple and easy to follow. I honestly did not find anything I dislike about this book.

The themes of this book are also among the aspects I loved. The easiness with which Inca welcomed Meena and Rani into the group, for example, delivers an important message about tolerance to the children reading the book. This theme is further emphasized by Inca noticing the many differences between her companions and Meena, because she had never seen an elephant before, yet accepting Meena nonetheless.

Because of the aforementioned positive aspects of the book, I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I believe that readers of any background between the ages of 10-13 would enjoy this book. I would not recommend it for younger readers, though, because of the long passages that may be difficult for them to understand.
