I rate the book Four Funny Potatoes by Len Foley four out of four. The plot, as such, is a moderately lengthy rhyme which revolves around animated food singing a song, mostly featuring three potatoes and a banana. This book is highly recommended for children of the ages of 0-4 and is absolutely certain to be a very enjoyable read for them. I definitely recommend that parents with children of these ages take a look at the book; it is possible that they might find it amusing themselves.

The book was, in one word, adorable! There are two things of this book that is particularly pleasing: the illustrations and the rhyme itself. The illustrations are extremely attractive (Benny the Banana was especially done well): they are colourful and charming. The multicolour font of the words against the white background is very eye-catching and would also be very appealing to little kids. Apart from this vivid presentation, which would unquestionably capture and maintain the interest of any child, the rhyme is catchy, funny and whimsical: very easy to memorise and very fun to recite.

Whereas the subject-matter of the rhyme is not particularly unique, the author has definitely created a work that stands out from the crowd, despite not creating anything revolutionary: the book definitely has all the standard elements of a typical children’s book. The author has not been very experimental, in this sense. But, far from being a point of criticism, this is what makes the book work.

The charm of this book owes to a series of components- the plot, the rhyme, and the illustrations- being done very well. Furthermore, it is not so short that it becomes pointless to call it a book nor is it too long to be difficult for children to follow.

All-in-all, the author has produced a terrific children’s book, which may go on to become an intrinsic part of their childhood!
