Will Cleary and his twin sister disappeared when they were just two years old. After only Will returns with the help of his wolf and falcon, his parents continue to search for his sister. Ten years later, Will begins to search as well. He travels to a parallel realm where he encounters the echoes, translucent beings who are mirror images of us. We are their sounds. Echoes stay alive in their realm as long as their sounds are alive.

Will is determined to find his twin sister and although this realm looks peaceful and beautiful, it is haunted by murderous creatures known as fate sealers. Will learns that his echo is the prince of Echoland. After the king is murdered, he must help him get the prince to the throne before the enemies take over and drag echoland into a world of darkness.

The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid is a captivating fantasy that pulls the reader into a world of magical adventure. The authors imagination had me intrigued. Pellucid created an entire world of beauty and darkness complete with its own unique terminology and laws. The descriptions were beautifully vivid and I found myself easily imagining this world in my mind.

The illustrations at the beginning of each chapter strongly complimented the book, as with many fantasies it is easy to to get lost in so many details but the illustrations helped to convey a clear picture to the reader. The icy, crystal ball filled landscapes, and the haunting screams of the fate sealers were conveyed through the illustrators pictures.

While this book was highly imaginative and creative, there were a handful of chapters that I felt could have contributed more to the storyline. The storyline did move along nicely yet I could not help but think there were one or two chapters that could have been left out. Aside from this, the story was very well developed and taught lessons of trust and friendship that the main character goes through along the way of his adventure.

This book is well suited for middle school to high school aged readers. There are many short chapters making this easy to keep the attention of younger readers. It is reminiscent of other fantasies such as the Harry Potter series. While younger audiences would enjoy this book, there are some scenes involving violence and death.

Overall I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. While I do not consider myself a part of the exact target audience, I did enjoy the read for the most part. I found very few grammatical errors and i really enjoyed the plot and the character development. I think that this book is a great option for those who are fans of the fantasy genre.
