Executive Functioning and ADHD for Teens and Young Adults, by Sabine Wedemeyer, is a resourceful read as it gives practical advice for how to conquer life with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). The author empowers the reader to take control of this condition rather than letting it control them. The tools provided throughout the chapters are practical and straightforward, making them easy to incorporate into daily living. It’s a simple read, clear of any fluff, making it a quick read for those who are easily distracted or not fond of reading.

It was evident that the author had done their research on the subject of ADHD. They knew what they were talking about in how those brains function and how overwhelmed they can become. The author shows this by keeping the sentences in the book short but fun. The book was kept simple and to the point, having only 10 chapters, plus one bonus chapter intended for parents who have children with ADHD. A variety of basic methods are given for the reader to try, making the book well-rounded and inclusive for varying audiences.

Based on the cover of this book, it is intended for teenagers and adults with ADHD. However, I found a number of helpful resources that would benefit anyone looking to take control of their life. The strategies given for time management, for example, are so easy to carry out daily, anyone can use them and would benefit from doing so without feeling overwhelmed. I was waiting for the author to drop the “bomb” that the reader would need to buy something or make some drastic changes to be successful, but this simply wasn’t the case. The author equips the reader with tools, but it’s up to them to use them and be intentional.

I would rate this book a 4 out of 5, due to parts of it being repetitive. The author liked to use “having a snack” or “watching TikTok” as examples. While these are accurate examples for making a point, they were used repeatedly throughout the book. I did not find any grammar or spelling errors, which gives props to the author for having accomplished a thorough editing job. The book was also appropriate and had no profanity or bad/foul language. This book would be a valuable self-help resource that won’t break the bank or be a waste of time. I would highly recommend it.
