One If by Carol B Allen was a delightful book to read. I do recommend it to everyone teen and up, as it does offer some rather alarming views of what might be going on to this very day about our world.

Inside the novel, we follow along with Parker, one of many teens sent to assist an entirely different world in bringing it back from the brink of destruction and only one of three who stayed. The three teens – Parker, Henley, and Edison – do form a bond, but it does feel like it was a bit hurried and not quite a genuine one. There was not a lot of time to get to know the three teens except through explanations from each of them.

I gave this book a four out of five stars because, while the plot is good, the story feels rushed through as one of the relationships completely blindsides the reader. Two characters that barely know each other seem to get together almost at random, neither one of them really having spoken much to each other throughout the story.

The parts of the story I did like were well thought out. The author mostly spelled things out for the reader to understand, and in a lot of readers this might spark an interest in the sciences that was not there before. The author did put a lot of thought into what might happen eventually to our world, giving solutions to the reader that they might not have thought of before.

A lot of readers might resonate well with Parker, Henley, and Edison. All three characters have believable backstories that seem realistic in even today’s standards, each of them carrying their own personal weight that may echo what the reader is going through at that moment.

One If is a wonderful book to read. It is a book with a surprising ending which will more than likely lead many other readers to checking out the next one in the series.
