The Liminal is a very fascinating story that kept me on my toes and wanting to keep reading the whole time throughout the entire book. The characterization of each of the main characters was pretty good. However, in my opinion the main female lead, Callie, talked in such an odd way for a character that is 14 years old, but that could just be the way I perceived it. To me, she talked in the way that a lot of adults talk rather than a teenager. The concept of this one space that Callie can go into when she’s dreaming is a cool concept but when you add in some of the information you learn throughout the book, it becomes so much more interesting and such an amazing concept. I did enjoy the little moments between Callie and her grandfather, Micky, when she’s talking to him about “the Liminal” and the things happening to and around them. That said I wasn’t very fond of the first flashback type of chapter. While it does introduce future characters and give more information about Micky, it’s a very jarring second chapter in my opinion. I did enjoy the rest of the flashback type of chapters and all of that, I just wish it wasn’t such a jarring switch the first time around. Overall, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars because while I loved the concept and most of the story, there were just some things I personally couldn’t overlook. There was also this one sentence at the end of the book that seems to have eight boxes at the start of it. It's the only time that happens and seems like it might just be on what I read it on, but I did feel the need to bring it up.
