Demetra’s Curse, by Tiffany Blanton, is a fantasy novelette that revolves around the inexplicable journey that Demetra Scott goes on. Growing up on humble plains, Demetra lives a simple and contented life with her parents and her neighbor, Charlie, who also happens to be her best friend. However, her life experiences an unexpected turn of events when the unnatural invades her natural world. She is tasked with going on a journey to find a book and save the four realms of the world from an evil ruler who plans on returning. Accompanied by Charlie, she embarks on this journey, making new friends and facing opposition along the way.
 
This book was simple to comprehend in terms of the language used. Illustrations are always a nice addition to any book, so I appreciated the graphics. I also loved the fact that it was a short read.
 
I mostly didn’t like the breakneck ending of the book. It came to an abrupt ending just as it was reaching its climax. It simply seemed like the author stopped writing in the middle of the story, and we as the readers were not informed if there is a follow-up book. I found this to be very unusual. I didn’t like the writer’s style and the way each chapter was structured. It was difficult to determine which character was speaking and when. A paragraph represents a single idea and has a different focus. However, each chapter consisted of one long paragraph with so many focuses and different things unraveling. This made the book seem disorganized. The lack of punctuation and punctuation in the wrong places also made it difficult to read the book steadily. 
 
I give this book a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. It is a good book to pass time and can be read in a single sitting. It had the potential to be an excellent story, but I feel like it was rushed. I found errors on almost every page, making the book poorly edited. 
 
One would think that the book is suitable for children because of the simplicity and length of the book. However, the fact that it’s quite violent and graphic makes it more suitable for young adults. Anyone who enjoys books containing magic, enchanted creatures, and fantasy would enjoy this book.
