Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign is an exciting story that dives into a world where hidden abilities and ancient legacies collide with modern life. This young adult novel, the first in the Scion Saga series, introduces readers to Adam and Carly, two teenagers whose lives are anything but ordinary. Their journey starts with an enigma that rapidly evolves into a perilous adventure, brimming with hidden truths, extraordinary abilities, and a battle for survival against dark forces.

Adam is a complex character, dealing with both his troubled past and his inexplicable talents. From the very start, he is portrayed as a young man struggling with his identity and emotions. His experiences are intensified by strange powers that he barely understands, setting the stage for his transformation. Carly, on the other hand, brings a fresh perspective and courage to their unfolding journey. The dynamic between them is one of the novel’s most compelling aspects, as their relationship evolves under the pressure of the challenges they face.

What I liked about the book is the way it blends the supernatural with relatable teenage issues. The author's use of vivid imagery and descriptive language creates an immersive experience, making readers feel the tension, excitement, and mystery as if they are right alongside the characters. The story balances reflective moments with thrilling action, keeping the reader captivated throughout. The exploration of the characters' powers and their gradual learning to harness and utilize them particularly impressed me. The author does a fantastic job of weaving these abilities into the narrative without making them feel overused or contrived. The stakes are high throughout the book as Adam and Carly grapple with their powers and the threats posed by the dangerous Iksha that seeks to exploit them. There was nothing I found displeasing about this book.

The book is well edited, with no noticeable errors. With its engaging characters, meticulously built world, and seamless mix of romance and adventure, I confidently rate the book a full 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this novel to fans of young adult fiction who enjoy a blend of supernatural suspense, rich emotional layers, and dynamic action.
