Society has gone blind to Adam’s blatant contempt. Caught between his parents’ denial and people’s judgmental attitude, he is unable to own up to his true self. His conflicting feelings for his mother scare him out of his wits, while a life-altering event still leaves him reveling in shame.

Carly is like a breath of fresh air in his otherwise monotonous life. She joins Adam’s school after the summer break. Adam is filled with thoughts of Carly and wonders how her mere presence both soothes and angers him at the same time.

Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign is a captivating sci-fi fantasy. In this exhilarating young adult series, Reign takes us on an enthralling journey that blends fiction and fantasy.

Adam and Carly share a past. They both belonged to an extinct Russian bloodline whose descendants are being hunted for their supernatural abilities by an elite group of scientists known as the Iksha. Adam tries to understand his lineage and uncover his hidden powers with the help of Carly. Meanwhile, Carly’s father is taken captive by the Iksha, and the descendants are forced to take a stand against the elite group. What happens to Adam and Carly eventually? Do they win this war waged against their family and friends? Grab a copy to learn more about Adam and Carly’s lives.

The story’s strength lies in its character development. Reign has painstakingly crafted both Adam’s and Carly’s personalities. Both are born fighters. Adam is a confused and angry young man who is unaware of his lineage and, hence, ignorant of his powers. Carly, on the other hand, is a serene girl who is aware of both her bloodline and her capabilities. Their connection is instant and beautifully presented throughout the story. Carly’s mother, Dauma, is my favorite character. She is an honest and forthright woman with immense power and self-control.

The story flows seamlessly, keeping the readers engrossed and on edge, impatient to uncover the next scene. While I had mixed feelings for Adam, I completely loved Carly for her courage and resilience.

To conclude, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars based on the above aspects. There is nothing to dislike in the book. The exceptional editing definitely enhanced the reading experience. The book is suitable for sci-fi lovers who are willing to embark on an interesting journey combining adventure, romance, and feelings of avengement for their lost family members.
