This thrilling young adult fantasy novel, "Opaque," by Calix Leigh-Reign, follows two teenagers named Adam and Carly as they learn they have magical skills and face extinction by a small gang of scientists. This is the first book in the Scion Saga series. The various scenarios in each book strengthen the ties between the families as they unite to defend their existence.

Adam, the main character, embarks on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment due to struggling with his unexpected abilities in a society riddled with oppression and insurrection. His portrayal of a relatable and driven protagonist who advances the plot with courage and persistence is superb. His character appealed to me. The author, Leigh-Reign, did a great job establishing the scene and including information. The twists in the plot kept me up until the end. It was interesting to learn about Carly's and Adam's powers. I enjoyed picturing glowing rings as the story progressed. The author's creative plotting allowed a wonderful representation of the main protagonists' young-adult romance and survival journey. Although the book started pretty intense, it soon followed up with an intrusive plot. I have already ordered the second book in the series. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

There is nothing I disliked about this book. It doesn't stick to a particular genre, but it is a combination of science fiction and fantasy. I found this book professionally edited, as I didn't find a single error. Hence, I would give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

All things considered, "Opaque" presents an engaging plot that will interest readers who enjoy young adult novels, dystopian fiction, and thought-provoking writing. The Scion Saga series has a captivating beginning and looks to be an epic saga." If you are a fantasy lover, you should not miss this one.
