Opaque by Cālix-Leigh-Reign is the first part of the Scion Saga Series. Adam Caspian, who is our protagonist, has always felt different from everyone around him and has an abnormally obsessive love for his mother. He also had a generalised hatred for everyone else, including his father. He is miserable in his existence until a new student, Carly, steps foot in his life and his school. Carly comes to Piure to live with her aunt. There is a gradual connection that has developed between the two youngsters. Carly learns about the dark secrets but doesn't confront Adam. With Carly's help, Adam discovers his own powers, which are due to mutations in their DNA, and that they are both members of rare, ancient, and powerful Russian bloodlines. They are hunted by a group of scientists called Iksha. Adam and Carly meet Carly's mother and others of their kind with glowing limbal rings and powers. Adam finds out the reality of his lineage through a journal that belonged to his mother. They work to try to save their families and friends. We come across many myths and realities during their journey and a lot of plot twists, crimes, and deaths.

The book may feel a little disturbing at first due to the secrets filled in Adam's mind, but they are essential to the plot, as we later get to know. The vocabulary is sometimes difficult.

I would rate the book 5 out of 5 as the plot is imaginative and detailed, the character development is appropriate, and the editing is flawless. The story is slow at the beginning but flows rapidly towards the second half of the book, and after the first three chapters, it is difficult to put down the book. The story is packed with thrilling action. I am really looking forward to reading the next installment of the series.
