Roeg was a mystery blue-haired baby who literally dropped into Unn's arms. Unn, the chief of his clan, took him in and raised him lovingly despite Roeg being an outcast and hated by the clan due to the red rune imprinted around his neck; they only tolerated him because he was unn’s protégé. Roeg struggled to prove his place in the clan and earn his second name, but Krukk, Unn’s brother, disliked him extremely and went out of his way to put him down and verbally abuse him. So, one year Roeg was determined to participate in the great hunter’s moon with his two best friends, Tsisa and Ookum, attempting to uncover the mystery of his rune and earn his second name, or die trying.

Sephonei is a merchant’s young daughter thrown alone, unarmed, and without training into the shore of the outer ring of Atlantis to be found by the rune hunters. Once the rune hunters, ku-aya and Abil, located her, they set off on the quest to find the Dragon rune.

I presume “Heroes of Atlantis: Legend of the Dragon” is best recommended to teenage readers who can relate to the young characters of the book. They would be interested in embarking with Roeg and Sephonei on their journeys to achieve their goals.

What I indulged in most about this book was the imagination of “Ryan Carriere” and his ability to transport you into the world he built. With every description of a character, I was able to picture him in my mind, and when I turned the page and spotted the drawing, I noticed a close resemblance to what I imagined. I wish to comment as well on the exceptional editing of the book.

Overall, I didn’t like the book and it was stressful for me to complete it, not due to the lack of action or creativity it’s just that I didn’t enjoy the reading and was bored from the start of the book. The cherry on the top was the lack of romance in the book, since in my opinion romance is the spice to a fantasy book.

I give it a rating of 3 out of 4, on the whole “Heroes of Atlantis: Legend of the Dragon” was a bit disappointing, but I have to take into consideration that it’s a debut novel and part of the series Heroes of Atlantis. Usually debut novels consist of world building and character introductions, so I don’t want to be evil and rate it 2 out of 4 because the series might have potential.
