Inspector Mage is set in the magical world of Dagirus, in the land of Osera, and revolves around an intriguing pair. The pair is Lord Russel Gaines, a famous former inspector, and Lady Julie Melton, a lady of high standing. Russel had resigned as an inspector due to his sister's murder by his greatest rival, and Julie has a big secret she's frantically trying to keep hidden. Together, they need to solve a case, the murder of Julie's brother-in-law's murder. And to solve it, they must set aside their differences and try to work in harmony. But that is not the only mystery needing solving, and there is a lot more to these magic-wielding people than meets the eye.

The author, Aleese Hughes, has done a fantastic job of creating a magical world for the characters to be in. I was particularly excited to see that there are even maps and pictures that relate to the story! I have always noticed that quite a few of the best stories have maps, illustrations, or even little graphs, and I was right! Inspector Mage is a great story with a well-crafted world and fun characters.

The plot was compelling and easy to follow. I had lots of fun trying to piece together clues, guess what happened, and figure out who did what. It was, in my opinion, a little too easy in finding the culprit, but I was pretty happy about being right in the end. The way Aleesa set up the plot for the sequel is also pretty cool. With a bigger and more complex mystery to solve for our dear protagonists.

The characters personalities are fun to read with all their good and bad habits and interactions. I was hoping to see Russel's addiction solved in this book, but I suppose that makes him a little more interesting to read. I especially love Julie's choice of fashion. And I can see this becoming one of my top favourite addicting series.

Not only is the plot fantastic and the characters fun, but the book is also exceptionally edited; I could not find a single grammatical error. I am giving this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating since there were no faults, and it was a fantastic read.

I would recommend this book to more mature readers who enjoy fast-paced fantasy and mystery fiction stories. I would also definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a great book to read.
