Opaque is the novel written by Calix Leigh-Reign and also the first book in the Scion Saga series. The genre is a Young Adult Fantasy novel with a touch of Sci-Fi and mystery which makes the readers hooked to it in no time.

The story is about Carly and Adam, teens who come from two different worlds. Adam, a troubled young man who has no interest whatsoever in life. Carly, a beautiful young lady, moves to her Aunt's place to protect herself from the danger lurking in. Then, Adam meets Carly and is instantly drawn to her. Carly also feels the same. They fall in love and shortly become the campus couple of their school. Adam gets to know from his mother that he is adopted, and he sets out on a quest in search of his true parents. In the process, Carly realizes that Adam must be a descendant of one of the seven great Russian families with extraordinary genetic mutant abilities of which Carly is also one of them. Adam is clueless about the hidden world and as their family truth unfolds between them, Adam and Carly have to protect their family and their loved ones from the people who want to extinct their bloodline for the sake of their powers.

The book delivers the fantasy world to the readers. The story is captivating and the main characters' personalities are written from two different worlds which create enough mystery to learn the truths and secrets about the hidden world throughout the book. Adam's character has been developed very well. From a person, who is not interested in anyone's life, to protecting and fighting for friends and family, whom he loves now and had known only for less time. Adam has grown so much over the story. The female characters of the story are Carly and her mother who are fierce, strong and independent. They inspire the readers to take charge of their lives and protect their loved ones. The book contains surprise elements in between the chapters. If you come across one, then you'll keep searching for more.

The few things I didn't like in the story is that the protagonist of the story is attracted to his mother in the first few chapters of the book. This instantly set me off. But I went further and read the book anyway to know the story. Although the author had given a scientific explanation for the same, I didn't comprehend the purpose. The book is written from different persons' points of view. I got confused about whose point of view I'm reading. This happened in several chapters and feels clumsy. I also felt a change in the pace of the story as and when there is something that is about to be revealed in the story and then it becomes a steady pace. This shift in pace is easily noticeable and felt not narrated properly.

I would like to rate the book 3 out of 4 stars with the above-mentioned points. There were very few errors that can be ignored. It is a good and quick read. I would like to recommend this book to fantasy lovers and who love to read stories about superpower abilities. This book gives major X-men movie vibes. It was a very enjoyable read and I will surely check out the next books in the series.
