Opaque is a thrilling Young Adult novel written by Calix Leigh-Reign. This is the first book in the Scion Saga series. The story revolves around two teenagers named Adam and Carly who are the descendants of extinct Russian families. They are on an adventurous journey of discovering their hidden abilities and fight for their survival.

Adam, a sixteen-year-old guy is not a regular teenager. He neither believes nor likes what people of his age normally do. He has dark and absurd mentation which is sometimes disturbing to him as well. Later, things start to change when he meets a girl named Carly. They share an unearthly connection which they are unaware of. From then on, many exciting and preposterous things start to occur. Want to know what that connection is? Want to know what happens with Adam and Carly later? Then you must read this book to discover more!

Opaque is a great Young Adult novel with some mysterious and intriguing elements in it. The characters in this story are complex and yet, well crafted. This intricate storyline will get the readers engaged and hooked. The author has done a pretty great job of weaving the plot without any potholes. The author’s writing is crisp and cohesive which is praise-worthy.

The story is especially fascinating when Adam and Carly are together. It seems like they together can make impossible things possible. I appreciate the author’s imagination and passion for creating such mysterious characters. I also like the initial segment where Adam and Carly are unaware of what is happening to them and what is the force that is drawing them towards one another. And the biggest appeal for me is the history of Adam and Carly. It is enthralling to read a story that has portions of descendants of Russian families, common enemy, and supernatural powers. I truly admire the author’s writing style and creativity.

There is nothing much for me to dislike in this book. However, I did not appreciate the obsession that Adam has over his mother. That seems quite unnatural and creepy. I also felt that the initial part of the book has a slow and boring pace. Apart from these, the novel is truly a page-turner. I did find any errors in this book and so I can say that the book is professionally edited. With that being said, I rate Opaque 4 out of 4 stars.

This book does contain profanity and obscene scenes. So I do not recommend this to kids. This is suitable for young adults, especially those who are interested in reading science fiction and thrillers. So if you think you fall into this category, then go ahead and pick this book up.

Sounds like an interesting novel. However, I hope I won't be turned off by the slow and boring pace at the onset of the narration.

I enjoyed the characters in this one too, and their link to some magical Russian descendants! The familial attraction factor was definitely odd and took some adjusting to, but it made for a memorable and complex storyline overall. Thanks for sharing your impressions too!
