I did not enjoy reading Stranded In The Wild for a few reasons, and I would rate it 1 out of 4. Throughout the book there are pieces that I really don’t agree with, some parts are confusing, and there were many stereotypes. I would recommend this book to a younger person who is just looking for a book to fulfill a goal of pages. A younger child/early teenager would enjoy Stranded In The Wild because they wouldn't catch as many mistakes and enjoy the thrill and the happy ending.

I chose Stranded In The Wild because I knew what to expect. Stranded In The Wild would either be one of the best adventure books I had ever read, or not unique or special. Stranded In The Wild didn’t stand out. The plot was basic and multiple times, I could guess what would happen before it happened.
Another downside of Stranded In The Wild was that it was confusing. More than a couple of times, I would have to go back and reread to understand the text. Even after I reread it, sometimes I would still be confused.

The final major reason I didn’t care for this book because of how unrealistic it was. Some events just happened by pure luck, but then the luck continued the rest of the story. For example, when Savi got bitten by a snake, what were the chances that Conner knew to suck the venom out of her leg, and then not get poisoned from the poison entering his mouth. Also, Luke always happens to show up at a very convenient time, when the teens are in trouble.

Throughout the book I noticed many stereotypes which I didn’t agree with. In almost every chapter, (or at least in most chapters), Jade always screams and freaks out. Both Conner and Rico like Jade for the wrong reasons. They like her because she’s pretty. Savi endures a rattlesnake bite and sacrifices herself to save the rest of the group, she is strong, smart, independent. Jade doesn’t help the group till the very end of the trip when she finally decides to step up on the last day. She always freaks out, screams, complains, and doesn’t hold her own. With Jade, Gary Rodriguez reinforces the stereotypical girl, squeamish and dainty. Savi is a strong girl, able to survive on her own.

All in all, I wouldn’t recommend Stranded In The Wild to anyone other than a young teen who doesn’t care for reading, and is just looking for a book that is mediocre because there are other adventure books that I believe are better. Stranded In The Wild has a basic plot like many other adventure books but has good messages about 4 teenagers stepping up, becoming better people, thinking of others before themselves, and the true meaning of friendship.
