Review by Little Muse -- Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign
It is opaque. Even the book's cover page shows that though there's a bit of light penetrating through. Maybe this too much darkness will be overcome at some point. Maybe it is true that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Well, let's find the answers in Opaque. A novel by Calix Leigh- Reign.
Adam is a very strange human who doesn't know how to live with others nor put up with their mere existence. He also doesn't take no for an answer. His only exception is his mother. JoAnn is the only person that Adam doesn't resent. This is because he hides strong emotional attraction towards her, to the extent of being jealous of his own father. Events roll out which are beyond his control that include, killing a teenage girl, Terry and having a fall out with his father and these prove that he is beyond the human species. He has to trace his origin and find his purpose as a wolf stuck with the animals.
The interesting topic of telekinesis is a theme in this book. Adam's super powers don't happen overnight and it is journey of self-discovery
This book is full of action and thrill. It is a full dose as it administers sadness, fear and joy. There is bad blood and there is romance. Tension surrounding the scenes is built-up leaving you holding your breathe. The battles are vivid and terrifying. The events are detailed and overwhelming. The writing is attractive with the author's words flowing effortless through the conversations and the narration, making this novel a page-turner.
I loved the characters especially Vikki. I enjoyed how nagging she was and how annoyed she made Adam feel. I also couldn't help fearing for her life at first as Adam behaved like a psycho. Carly is also introduced nicely and her role as Adam's light is creatively planned.
I generally loved every aspect of this book though I would have loved for Adam's father to hang around more. He can make a very exciting character in a comeback. Or maybe the author should consider reviving him later on in the series in her most creative, mysterious and supernatural way.
This book shows that the Scion Saga series is something to look out for. The editing which is a significant factor in the quality of the book has been well looked into. This book is professionally edited. My recommendation is to fantasy lovers who'd like to go the series way. I loved and enjoyed this one. I'm now compelled to follow this series and other works from Calix Leigh.
I rate it four out of four stars.
