Calix Leigh-Reign has done a very good job on Opaque. The genre is sci-fi. Although I found it hard to keep track of Adam’s thoughts in the first two chapters, I think his character is quite interesting. The way he thought of other human beings and his feelings he felt for his mother filled several questions in my mind at the beginning. I thought that the male protagonist, Adam, was a complex person. His thoughts were negative to a great level until Carly appeared in his life. He became easier to understand through the course and I find the transition in his character from the beginning to the end, very fascinating.

Adam and Carly gets close despite their attempts to stay away from each other at the beginning. Carly strikes me as a very wise person. She brought out the good in Adam, making him a very different person from what he was before she appeared in his life. They work together, along with several friends they meet later to face the Iksha, ruthless scientists who wants to capture descendants use them for their own selfish purposes. Opaque kept me captivated till the end. I was so engrossed in the story that I couldn’t find anything wrong with the grammar. The plot was very engaging and at many points, I found myself thinking from their viewpoints.

The twists and turns of the plot were thrilling and unpredictable. The way Carly dealt with Adam shows how mature and practical she is. There was a point when I thought there would be several problems in their relationship, but they figured everything between them without hassle and focused on threat they faced. Adam managed to tame his negative thoughts and focused on figuring out his powers as a descendant, with Carly guiding him through every step. I feel compelled to point out Dauma’s character. Her wisdom and conduct amazed me. I like her very much and the way she treasured her relationship with her daughter, Carly.

I really liked how the protagonists, Adam and Carly shaped and maintained their relationships with other characters. Their bonds were tightly knit and I was very happy, when Adam repaired his broken relationship with his family. I had disliked the first few chapters of the book and had second thoughts about reading till the end. I would’ve never known how great the book was if I had stopped and I am very glad that I convinced myself to keep reading! The first few chapters made more sense as the plot continued, so as whole I like the book very much.

I rated Calix Leigh-Reign’s Opaque as 4 out of 4 stars. The plot was entertaining and promising. The book ended quite well, leaving several questions about the characters that are yet to appear. It is really interesting how the characters are tangled with each other and how close they have become through the length of the story. I am really looking forward to read the rest of the books in the series.
