This story begins with a very unlikable character scrutinizing society. Adam Caspian’s hatred for all things superficial comes across quite arrogantly. His rude demeanor left very little desire in me to continue this book. I did not enjoy the first chapter.

The author uses English well but the overuse of “complex” thoughts created a rigid pace in the writing. The story did not flow well; not at first.

Alas, I persevered, and I am glad that I did. Calix Leigh-Reign creates such a unique world that you have to do a double take. You’re sitting there thinking: "Well this is strange," to "I need to read more!" So thumbs up to Calix for getting me intrigued.

The dynamic character growth of Adam could not have happened without the sweet Carly Wit. She shakes him out of his morbid state and helps him to start living.

The part that got me was when I realized that Adam isn’t a monster. This was an emotional experience. I started off hating him and perhaps he hated himself too and as he began to accept himself, I did as well.

This book takes an interesting turn into science-fiction. The author makes this transition effortlessly. I love how unpredictable this book is. Whenever Adam and Carly discovered something, I was as surprised as they were. With the endless discoveries, who could get bored?

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I got enraptured in the story-line but I personally was not impressed with the author’s ability to tell the story. At times I felt the writing was weak however the book is very well edited. This book is ideal for young adults with a mature mind. There are certain aspects of this book that I feel younger teens should not be exposed to.
