Review by Kayla+Nelson -- Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign
Calix Leigh Reign's Opaque is definitely a very interesting book. I like it because it's like a rollercoaster ride the whole way. You can really feel the emotions that the author wanted to convey in each of the pages. There were a few errors such as this. " Albeit uncomfortably, she makes an effort." I believe but was supposed to come after the comma to express the contrast in the sentence. Outside of the few errors I stumbled upon in the book it was a well written novel. I felt that the concept of the book was very unique.
My favorite part of the book is the chemistry between the characters, and getting a glimpse of each of their personalities. I think that the way they all connected upon meeting each other was intriguing. Adam starts out as such a lonely teen that it is nice when he finally starts connecting with people, rather than always faking his disposition. Getting to know all the little quirks that each of the characters posses just made me want to keep reading. Feeling their fear, hate, love, anger, and anguish throughout the book is a thrill ride. The bond that each of them form throughout the
events of the book is the thing I would say highlights this book for me. I am eager to read Calix Leigh Reign's Split Adam to see where they end up next.
My least favorite part of the book is the fact that so many characters get killed off without really getting an introduction into the story. I like to be able to fall in love with the characters who play big roles in the book. I felt let down by the early deaths of a few of the characters. I think they could've been given a little more of a role though I understand the importance behind their deaths. Because important events surrounded their deaths. Hopefully the characters who didn't have much time to shine in this book will get a few recaps in the next books.
My final thoughts are if you enjoy a good fiction novel with a little romance, action, science, and suspense I would say that Calix Leigh Reign's Opaque is worth reading. I was moved by the character's emotions. I think that others may be aswell. It was very well written and unique in my opinion. I think it's a good book with a lot of potential. There were a few errors as I mentioned earlier in my review, but I can get passed those errors for the plot. It was truly a great work of art, and I will certainly check out Calix Leigh Reign's other books. Therefore I give this book 3 out of 4 stars.
