Life outside of Earth seems to be the eternal fascination of the human race. One might even think that the theme is overdone and that there cannot possibly be any new ideas or stories to tell on the subject after all this time. But, Braxton A. Cosby is clearly not one of those and has proven any disbelievers wrong in his debut as an author with The Star-Crossed Saga trilogy.

Beginning with the first book of the series, Protostar — which has won multiple awards since its release in 2015 — the series has continued to entrance and bring joy to readers of all ages until the very last page and even after with life lessons Cosby has instilled throughout.

The book begins with a very tragic scene, a meteor-like object crashing down into a passing vehicle leaving none inside alive. Not much is mentioned about the occupants until much later in the story except for the baby girl removed from within the crashed object. This baby is our main character, Sydney, and the one removing her from the wreck, her “grandmother” Sarah, who seems to have anticipated her arrival on Earth though not much is ever revealed on this subject in Protostar.

The book continues many years later when Sarah turns sixteen and everything begins to change. First, multiple earthquakes throughout the U.S. and then the arrival of a mysterious young man named William. Of course William is no ordinary teenager; he is in fact a prince from another planet sent to hunt down the star-child, Sydney! But as he gets to know her and feelings grow between them, he finds his task more and more impossible as they continue getting to know one another. Can he really kill her? And is he really the only one after her life? Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out.

Protostar is a truly wonderful work of fantasy, and I enjoyed reading every page. In fact, as soon as I finished the last sentence I immediately went online to buy the sequel. Full of intrigue, danger, romance and excitement, this book is a real page turner. There are very few mistakes and what few there are, are very minor. Overall, I would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating and an honest assessment that I will be rereading this book in the future. If you like fantasy, space, romance or all the above then this is the book for you. Happy reading!
