Re: When do you write?

I usually write most productively in the morning, between 8 am and 11. But if I'm writing well I can write just about any time.

I think Hemingway's idea, in A Moveable Feast, is a good one. He said he tried to stop writing each day before he'd said everything he had to say, so he'd have somewhere to start the next day.

I have a really long lunch break during the day between my morning and afternoon obligations at work. I do most of my writing on my tablet then, and when I get home, I transfer everything onto my home computer. Sometimes I write during free time on the weekend, usually late at night, but I am more creative in the middle of the day, I think.

I write at any given time of the day however I work a 40 hour week so it's really hard to find any time to write at all. Honestly it kind of sucks cause I can work for five hours and have about three chapters done. I wish I had more time on my hands though so I could write more because I've got about 3 stories going on and I havnt even made it to the seventh chapter.

I write the best, and the most, late at night. Right before I am ready for bed, and inspiration ends up keeping me awake for countless hours.

I find myself writing at any time of the day and for any reason. There are times that I will sit with a pencil and paper and just stare at it. Sometimes something comes out and then there are times where after an hour I would walk away. I have yet to write when I miss someone and I can say that there are no occasions that inspire me to do so. However, the one thing that does inspire me is to defy those that say that I can’t succeed at something and writing is one of them.

What I am known for are the excellent e-mails that I write, class papers and also the employee evaluations that I do for my co-workers. What I am not known for is being creative and I usually don’t share such things. So defying those that say that I am not creative and snicker when I was writing my book and defying my own inner voice that tells me to stop.

I usually like to write at night when I make myself free from all my works. I really feel great to write before sleeping because after that I really feel great and I have very nice sleep.

I try to write whenever possible because my schedule makes it pretty hard. I moved countries after I graduated and I travel between both, working in my home country and then travelling back to where I now live. Even when I'm home, I can't write because I have to be in the living room with my family and that makes it difficult to write in peace. I try to write as much as possible before going to sleep and on my phone. I prefer solitude when I write and remaining in my room where I have access to all my books and notes. It's good to write every day no matter the amount because when I stopped writing for a while, even though I had ideas, I just really couldn't get writing. I hope to write a full book by next year.

I want to write RIGHT NOW! But my nose is running and I have a cold, so I will probably just go to bed.

I write all the time. I work on different things and something will pop into my mind and I write it down maybe for a minutes just to jot down the thought or sometimes the words flow and I cant stop. All depends on the day.

That's a good habit to have. I try to make a schedule for myself, but sometimes my brain just isn't working right when I am supposed to be writing. Like right now, for example. I am like a zombie. My brain is gone.

I'm usually most productive in the early morning - that's usually when I'm most uninhibited about writing things that I know I'll probably cringe at when I wake up later that day. It also usually results in nonsensicality of some degree or other (not to mention lots of rambling), but having something to edit is usually better than the alternative so eh, it's worth it.

Also, I've found that ideas almost always come when I'm walking - in Frederic Gros' A Philosophy of Walking which I recently read, he says of Nietzsche, Kerouac and several other writers that "walking was...the precondition of their work". That really resonated with me and since then I've tried to ensure that I've some sort of writing medium to jot down thoughts whenever I go for long walks.

Doc Foster wrote: I think Hemingway's idea, in A Moveable Feast, is a good one. He said he tried to stop writing each day before he'd said everything he had to say, so he'd have somewhere to start the next day.
Oh wow that's pretty coolbeans - I recently read Haruki Murakami's What I Talk About When I Talk About Running and he said almost exactly the same thing:
"I stop every day right at the point where I feel I can write more. Do that, and the next day's work goes surprisingly smoothly."

I write before and in my breaks between my classes at college. Sometimes I even write during class if I've finished what we're working on and am waiting for the professor to give us something or dismiss us early. I write before work when I'm waiting in my car for the girl I babysit to get to the bus stop or get off the bus. I write on the weekends when I'm at the library taking a study break. I carry around random scraps of paper in case an idea hits me and I have to get it down before I forget. I write at every available opportunity when I'm feeling inspired.
