Heartaches – Bad Boy Vibes, what an appropriate name for this book by author H.M. Irwing.

Heartaches - how much pain and loss can a heart hold?

When Anna Walters-Simmons was 10 years old her father died, and her happy, normal life changed forever. Her mother re-married John Simmons and her new stepfather was not easily pleased. Anna stumbled upon a secret her mother had kept from her, and she was asked to keep quiet about it. Eight years later, Brian Simmons landed on their doorstep, John Simmons’ son they did not know existed. He killed his father after not getting what he came for and decided to stay on… Brian forced Anna and her Mother to silence on him being his dad’s killer.

Anna eventually found what she thought was love in the arms of Mark Preston, but the Preston brothers and their father had other plans for Anna. On the night Anna’s biggest ordeal began, another weary soul, Rafe Brown, returned home from active duty in Sirya to his Aunt Bella, his only living family. Rafe also had to deal with a lot during his childhood years, witnessing his mother’s murder and being abused by his stepfather. Rafe decided to join the military, but there he had to face his biggest trial.

A week later the paths of Anna and Rafe crossed and their wounded souls recognized each other. How will they be able to overcome their hurt? Together….? You will have to read this book by H.M. Irwing to find out if they will find the happiness they long for. Will they be able to overcome the hurt and injustices of the world? Will they be able to get the culprits and criminals to pay for what has been done to them?

This book is definitely only meant for adult readers and could be a trigger point if you have dealt with sexual abuse or rape. It contains a lot of graphic sexual violence and erotica. I did, however, enjoy reading this book, I feel as though it gave me an understanding of victims of such crimes. Not all victims react the same way, but in the case of Anna and Rafe, they found they could deal with their issues together, having someone to relate and talk to, making them stronger.

This book was edited very well, and I could hardly pick up on any errors. I mostly liked how Anna’s meek personality evolved into a strong woman who will not give up until justice is served, and how Rafe is not your typical emotionally strong hero of the story. I disliked that the flow of the book at some stages felt a bit rushed.

I would definitely not recommend this book to readers who are averse to sexual violence and rape. I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. Although it could be difficult for certain people to read, I would definitely read the rest of the books in this 3-part series.
