Heartaches is the first book from the Bad Boy Vibes series written by H.M. Irwing. The author shows not all stories are filled with love, rainbows, and sunshine. Sometimes they are full of pain, sufferings, and heartaches.

Anna Walters-Simmons, a lonely girl with insecurities and low self-esteem. She is bullied and mocked by her fellow students. Anna has her own baggage of pain and heartaches, but Matt Preston gives her attention and self-worth just to snatch away altogether.

Rafe Brown, an ex-army commando is back in Australia from Syria. He has his own demons from the past. Broken from this experience from the cruel reality of human evil. He needs retribution. When Anna meets Rafe, Rafe recognizes the pain in Anna's eyes. He needs to protect her. Both set on a journey to rebuild a life with dignity.

A whirlwind of raw emotions I felt while reading this book. I cried with Anna, I laughed with Pat and my heart broke for Rafe. There was a point where I didn't want this book to end. I am in complete awe of how truly beautiful and twisted the storyline is.

A heartbreaking story of Rafe Brown and Anna Walters-Simmons is not only about pain and despair, but also the way both overcome their pasts and find solace in each other. The beginning of the book is slow but eventually, the story picks up. This tale got me by surprise, don't let the cover or synopsis fool you. This book has so much to offer than ordinary dark romance. And this is just the beginning, as there are two more books in the series which I can't wait to devour.

Through this narrative, one can feel the struggle of rape victims to get justice. It shows that law enforcement is not doing enough for the rape victims. Justice is denied just on the basis of circumstantial evidence or lack thereof. Also, it shows that rape culture does not see gender. Males get raped too. Rape is one of the most appalling things one can do to another human. The moral of the book is to keep moving forward and keep fighting.

I proudly award this book 4 out of 4 stars. I loved the writing. It is one of the rare gems. I didn't find any grammar mistakes. If you're looking for a heartbreaking story with steamy romance and a hint of light humor this is the book you want to grab next. But let me warn you first, this book is only for 18 and above. It contains drugs, graphic rape scenes, sexual assault. I won't recommend this if rape is a sore topic for the reader. It is an intense book.
