Rape is a girl’s terrible ordeal. In the novel Heartaches 2 Bad Boy Vibes by H.M Irwing, the author narrates the riveting tale of Anna and Rafael in their pursuit of justice. Anna has just sued the Prestons’ following his rape ordeal. She had been sedated and raped by the Prestons’ trio of Matt, Jason and their aging father. Anna is fighting for justice that she feels she deserves. Rafael is her companion in the pursuit for justice. It is like fate is playing with Anna and Rafael since Rafael himself is a victim of rape. His superintendent, Eric Dayton had assaulted him while at the military college.

However, Anna and Rafael course is hindered by many stumbling blocks. The Prestons’ and Dayton's are a thorn on their flesh. They are using their influence in the society to frustrate the judicial system. Moreover, they adopt skills to frustrate Anna into withdrawing the cases filed against them. This can be seen by the acts of kidnapping Rafael, Anna’s boyfriend, and thereafter demanding for withdrawal of cases filed by Anna as a precondition for his release. Will Anna and Rafael ever find the justice they are looking for?

I am a huge fan of crime mysteries and police procedurals, so this novel was a perfect recipe for me. I loved the suspense created by the author in the novel. The author does not directly reveal Anna and Rafael next courses of action. He leaves it for the readers to meditate. Such plan made me to read many pages to find out what happened next. I guess I was interested to learn of the fate of the protagonists.

Another feature I loved in the book is the relationship between Anna and Pat. They meet during their trainings at the military college yet it feels like they had known one another for eternity. They confide in each other their problems. Pat understands Anna’s struggles with Rafael all too well. The author says Rafael was envious of their bond. It is also Rafael and Anna who help Pat explain his gay status to his parents. Pat was fearful as to how his parents could react upon learning of his gay status. Anna helps them to understand the situation.

The only problem I had with the book is in the ending. It was not complete. There was no proper character development. I hope there will be a third series of this novel. However, the incomplete ending did not take away anything from the novel. This book is well edited. I am therefore thrilled by the novel and give it a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. The tale was told in a straightforward way which is befitting of such a story. I highly recommend this great novel to fans of crime mysteries. If you are not a fan of crime thrillers, this is not a novel for you.
