I rate this book 2 out of 4
In this tale of emotional turmoil on both sides and what seems like a never ending battle of the past, both Anna an Rafael continue on their journey in life. Although this is part 2 of their story I did find some connection to the Story. I did not like the story flow of it, the basis of the tale is there and can be understood. Past life catching up with the present seems to be a tale told very often, yet still well received. In this book, Heartaches 2-Bad Boy Vibe, by H.M. Irwing, It shows many sides of the female and male perspective of the story without leaning to one side or the other, and it is a more modern tale of lovers.
Anna and Rafael deal with past lovers who are either trying really hard to break them up or steal one from another. Pat, Rafael's friend, tries her best to make sure that Anna doesn't get the wrong idea about him, because Anna's jealousy got in the way. Issues about Pat wanting Rafael was all cleared up when it's discovered that Pat prefers another, yet he cannot have. Later Anna finds out it's actually Eric Dayton, the "Ex" from Rafael's past. Even after a scheduled boxing match, that Rafael won and felt justice, still made Rafael feel he wanted more. He thinks Eric deserves more than just being punched out.
This story really didn't flow, but i got the main plot. Some of the chapters really didn't mesh well with the story. Story lines and time line seemed off, in saying who was with who, or when certain scenes ( actions of the characters.) didn't really explain whats going on. The gender of the characters, and the general knowledge of whom is talking confused me in some of the chapters as well. I had to read 4 chapters to know that Pat was a male character. Gender is always important, but in telling a story about a specific character, we need to know what they look like, act like, in others words know them. no matter how brief the interaction is with the character.
My rating for this book is a 2/4. This book has so much potential to be a great love story of our time. All the ingredients are there. More reasons behind the characters decisions, more detail in interactions with past and present, and one thought of the story instead of making several cross stories that don't fit. The book was edited very well. I only noted that in almost every chapter, Anna or Rafael was calling out for each other, as in yelling their name out of exasperation and or fear , but then nothing is noted to be happening around the time they are calling out for each other.
Being a strong role in a book can sometimes be hard to convey, although I did not like the fillers of the story, I do like the direction where it was going in. It's Modern, it's open, and in your face about emotional strife that most of us have had in our lives at one point or another. Maybe not all that's in this story, but some like being abused, forgotten, and lied constantly to. Heartaches 2- Bad boy Vibe does make you think, but too hard on the outside stories versus the story at hand.
