Heartaches 3 begins with Matt Preston desperately trying to win back Anna Simmons’ heart. A heart he is not likely to ever win back, she is now in love with his half brother Rafe. Matt lost Anna’s love because he chose obedience to his twisted and abusive father, Peter Preston, who asked him to rape Anna. Rafe stepped up to protect her from any further abuse and proved himself the better man.

Peter Preston, an underground drug dealer and Matt’s and Rafe’s abusive father is about to get married. His chosen bride is Rafe’s aunt Bella. Rafe hatches a plan to stop the ceremony and take his aunt away from Peter’s clutches. Along with saving his aunt from a life of misery he intends to avenge the pain and humiliation that Anna suffered.
Suzi the maid is a key part of Rafe’s revenge against Peter. Their revenge scheme takes her compromisingly close to Peter, David Seaborn notices and does not like it one bit. He tries hard to ignore Suzi but his true feelings for her eventually surface. Could there ever be a future for David and Suzi? What about her immigration status? Will this bring her closer to the people she loves or tear her away from them?

This is more than just a love story; it is a tale in which people overcome doubt and fear to accomplish heroic feats for the people they love. The most fitting example being Suzi, she has so much to lose yet is always willing to help out wherever she can.

Having found each other on the last book, Pat and Dan are still going strong. It’s curious to see whether they make their status as a gay couple official despite disapproval from close family members. Pat was cast away by his parents for being gay. Anna, his close friend and confidante, hopes for him that Dan will not break his heart.

Meanwhile, Brian has had adequate time for soul searching. He goes back to his family to own up to the murder of his father and to the part he played in Anna’s rape. Will they accept him back into the fold? I give this book 3 out of 4. It is rich with many lessons concerning families and the role they can play towards our success or our downfall. It also embraces diversity and celebrates love in all its forms.
