Life is never as simple as one would like or think. Sometimes things turn out differently than one would like. The book My Trip to Adele follows the life of 3 different people, in various parts of the world, with their own problems. One of them is that of Nadia. Nadia is a single mother that is working her hardest to raise her son, give him the best life possible, while battling her husband for custody. Her ex-husband is a powerful and wealthy man which makes things harder for Nadia. She does her best to never let her son see the struggles and tiredness that she is experiencing, and is working on taking her son to an Adele concert as that is her son’s idol. Unfortunately, complications happen, and you will have to read to see how all ends with Nadia’s story.

Then we jump to another story that is told from a man’s struggle with lost love. Elias lives in Rome and must travel back to Marrakesh to try to find his long-lost love. He found out that someone put a black magic spell on him that might have caused his break-up, and ultimately losing his love/soulmate. He had met his love as a lady of the night, and they bonded so much. He learned how she wanted to travel and learn English. He then got her a CD player with an Adele CD and translated lyrics to help her learn. He had made a promise to reunite with her at an Adele concert down the line as they both love(d) her music. Again, it is a story that you will have to read to see what happens with his love story.

Then there is the story of Yaser. He is doctor in Las Vegas with a struggling marriage. The couple is going to marriage counseling to try to save their marriage. They are tasked to think of a moment in their marriage to recreate, to rekindle the romance. The couple struggles with this, we learn secrets that Yaser has, and ultimately learn of his proposal that leads to Adele. He proposes while playing an Adele song in the back, so figures the best way to rekindle their love is to go to an Adele concert as they both still relate to her music, and it could be a getaway for them to bond as a couple. Will it work? Can they save their marriage?

Overall, the book was a great read and I would rate it 3 out of 4 stars. I grew more interested in the book to see how the characters would solve their individual problems, if they could. There were some curve balls that made you want to keep reading to find out what happened. The only thing I didn’t like was that the chapters alternated from one story to the next. I’m not even a fan of when movies do this, so it was my least favorite thing about the book.

I liked that they included different lyrics of an Adele song at the end of each chapter, that would fit perfectly to what was going on. I know that Adele has a variety of song dealing with different topics, but would have never seen how diverse she is, if it wasn’t for this book. It is a well written book that makes you want to read, it makes you relate to all the different characters, introduces different customs and cultures, and helps you see your problems are not as big as the characters in the books.

This was a well-written review. I agree about the jumps in between the characters in the story. Yet, at the same time, I think that is also a great part of this book uniqueness.
