Anna Walter-Simmons and Rafael Luis Brown have are deeply and irrevocably in love with each other. That plot development was probably covered in the two books before Heartaches 3 that I did not read. That being said, I'm unaware of how and why they fell in love, but the third book was comprehensive and expressive enough on its own that I didn't have to wonder about the characters' history. The author's writing style made accepting their dynamic effortless. The plot revolves around one major, one minor and a couple of sub-minor issues, based on the time it takes to resolve them.

Rafael's aunt, Bella, is getting married to Peter Preston; a person commonly described as a monster who also happens to be Rafe's father. Bella is blissfully unaware of the former description and its aptness. The minor and chronologically former issue is to stop the wedding, in which they succeed. The major issue happens to be Preston and his billion-dollar drug cartel which they also succeed in closing down, killing Peter Preston and his associates in the process, which I'd personally consider a bonus.

Heartaches 3 isn't a standalone novel but it's not hard to comprehend or enjoy, if you do happen to be reading it without having read the first and second books. The characters were diverse and fun to read. The book was adequately emotional, and the author's writing style was beautiful. It was a short read, just about a hundred pages in my reader.

There wasn't much character development, unless you count the change from alive to deceased and from single to married as character development. There was, however, implied character development. Charlotte, for instance was not the bullying, uncooperative girl that she supposedly was in book 1, 2 or both. Anna and Rafe got over their trust issues and other hindrances-to-a-relationship in either or both of the books before this one. The double Valentine's weddings in the end was a really nice touch to the overall picture of the book.

This book was a nice laid-back read. If you like typical, cliche romance books, this would be a good choice. I would, however, recommend any interested readers to avoid skipping the first books. There weren't any scenes that would be described as sexual in Heartaches 3, in case that bothers you, though I can almost certainly say that there are certain sexual and triggering scenes in the previous books. I would give this book 3 out of 4 stars.
