This book is titled Deceptive Calm by Patrica Skipper and it was an enthralling romance novel that was not your typical "romance" story. This author has captured the real feel of a real romance in a novel that I found very hard to put down once I picked it up.
I loved how the author combined romance and modern day societies racism and inequality woes into a perspective that meets these issues head on in the main characters own life, and being a black woman looking like a white woman and no one can tell she is black. And how that small detail evolves and erodes along the way, until it backfires and she is faced with monumental decisions that will affect more than just her life, but every person that is close to her. Is she going to make the right decisions? These choices are ones that will ultimately change other peoples lives as well as her own.
The author is great at giving lots of details, which enhances a readers view of the story. In my opinion, i believe there are to many sexual encounters that are well detailed but I believe the story would be just as great without them at all.
I am giving this book a rating of 3 out of 4 and the reason for that rating is because the book is good, but a perfect score would have been a perfect book with no typos or errors but I found a few. On page 1 and page 11 the word white does not need to be capitalized. On page 286 and 287, the word "trial" is misspelled. And if the ratings had 5, I would of given the rating 4 out of 5 for the same reasons as mentioned before. These were under 10 but not perfect.
So all and all I thought it was a fabulous, well written story, minus the few errors, and would highly recommend it. It was not perfect but it was pretty close!
