“The story has multiple characters." What started out as a steamy affair turned into sexual violence and revenge. One cold rainy day in the suburbs of Melbourne north-west. A woman named Anna Rose Walter-Simmons and her mother Jane Simmons attended the funeral of her husband John Simmons. Anna's father or so everyone thought. John had a son, Brian Simmons who was Anna's half-brother. Brian was a 25-year-old ex-convict who murdered his own father, he had an abusive past.
Anna attended vocational college, where she met Matt Preston. Matt has a brother Jason, they attended the same college. Matt and Jason's father Peter was a teacher there. Matt and Anna had what started out as a steamy affair, then things took an unexpected turn.
In the same street of the suburbs in Melbourne was this man by the name of Rafael Luis Brown. Everyone called him Rafe. He has a dog named Bruno, his aunt's name is Bella. He was in the Australian military, he returned home after the war to stay with his mother, her name is Samantha Russo Brown.
Not sure if there is a follow-up book, but from what I have read it sounds like there will be one. The reason I am not sure is that at the end it said "to be continued." It would be nice if there is a follow-up story. I really thought the book was enjoyable and would love to read another like it. My favorite characters: I would say are Anna and Rafe. She went through a tough time, however, it all turned out well in the end for her. Her “hero” Rafe was there to help her through the bad times.
The book was written in modern times, however, it could have specified a time-frame when it all took place. I think the ending could have been better thought out, however, that's necessarily not all bad. It keeps one yearning for more. I will leave the rest up to your imagination.
In my opinion, the book was good but a bit confusing. She wants him, then she doesn't. She can't seem to make up her mind. She liked him, but at the same time, she was unsure, in light of everything that happened to her. Rafe stuck with her, despite things she had endured. The book had a nice touch; it was not just about romance. It consisted of sexual violence as well as revenge; I found that different, as well as captivating.
The three boys Matt, Jason and Peter Preston conspired to rape Anna, she was intimidated by them. If she went to the cops, they would hunt her down; which they did. Anna joined the army and none other than the Preston brothers were there. The cops name is Tess Jordan of the crimes unit; she found the story hard to swallow as Anna waited too long before laying a charge of rape against the Prestons.
I gave this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. The book was captivating, it had an interesting storyline. I would have given it a 4 if it did not end the way it did, he whispered in her ear "together." I never gave it a 2, simply because it kept my attention.
Heartache would be suited to 18+, it had a lot of explicit sexual and violent content, that is definitely not suited to people under the age of 18.
