Yesterday: A Novel of Reincarnation by Samyann

The author’s thorough research for this fictional novel is unquestionably the highlight for this tale. I truly enjoyed both the historical and modern references that flowed throughout the pages. The author’s notes at the end were much appreciated. I may even try my hand at the recipe included.

The story focuses on a mysterious 18th century grandfather clock, and a couple, Amanda Parker and Mark Callahan, with their instant connection to feeling as if they knew each other. In addition, Amanda faces her own trauma of people she loves dying. It delves into utilizing past life therapy to uncover the secrets behind the intricate puzzle.

The author stood true to encapsulating all of the characters introduced. The descriptive sounds, smells and tastes pulled me head first into the book. I could hear every detail such as sirens, bells, horses, wagon wheels, and even the simple raising and lowering of the tea bag’s sloshing. I tasted everything, from the idiot's delight and apple to the overwhelming wood smoke. I could smell jasmine, roses, pipe smoke and fresh hay to name a few. The detailed experience was remarkable.

It was refreshing that the author was able to bring the often hard-to-relate subject of reincarnation to life. This avenue brought forth new characters to follow. The main character introduced through this was Bonnie May Belle Lexington. I was completely invested in exploring Bonnie’s adventure.

The novel was well written for the majority of the read; however, it is in my opinion that the ending was rushed. It left this reader exclaiming: “that’s it?” I truly was surprised to find myself at the end of the tale. That noted, I did enjoy the story overall.

Yesterday: A Novel of Reincarnation is an adult fictional piece with profanity, sexual, and violent content.
