H.M Irwing's Heartaches Bad Boy Vibes is indeed a gripping and interesting read. It is an emotion filled story that is drafted around some of the several evils prevalent in most societies- rape, abuses and exploitation-which is mostly overlooked except in few cases where justice is served. It is a ready invite into the world of the oppressed, an invite to delve into the injustice committed against the helpless in all parts of the world- from the home which is supposed to be a comfort zone, to the classroom, to the military zone which is supposed to offer protection- right under our watch . H.M. Irwing expressed this in uber vivid, descriptive, explosive and romantic terms, giving us clear insight to how it feels to be a victim of circumstance like Anna and Jane Simmons, Rafael Brown and Charlotte Mitchells.

Anna Walters-Simmons is a teenager from an abusive home. The first ten years of her was blissful until her dad died and her mom sought solace in the arms of John Simmons after a whirlwind of romance unwittingly inviting the devil to her home . John Simmons despised Anna and sought excuses to hurt her and her mother, Jane Walters-Simmons, in a bid to protect all she had left in the world, her innocent daughter always ended up at the receiving end, often physically abused and even raped by her own husband. All these, coupled with the ridiculing she endures at school, results in an insecure Anna which was partly responsible for the several problems she later faced with the Prestons. Her murderous stepbrother being mainly responsible as he had set her up with the Prestons to settle his debt with them and she being an unsuspecting pun in their game ended up being gang raped after being drugged senseless.

Following this incident she battled severely with depression, self pity and not being able to stop herself from wanting her rapists or remembering the pleasure she had felt that fateful night . Then Rafael Brown came into the picture with his good looks offering a helping hand in securing justice for her and in a bid to save her mom from all the pain she moves in with him in his aunt's cottage and the roller coaster ride began, the two battling their own devils and also finding peace and love with each other.

The novel kept me in suspense and greatly surprised me with its unpredictability. I thought it was going to be the conventional story of a girl's heart gets broken then prince charming comes along to mend it. Indeed it went along those lines but the twist of seeking justice and even getting military training in the case of dear Anna, wasn't envisaged. I did not like the fact that Anna was treated the way she was by her so called stepbrother and the Prestons. What I like most about the book is the clear message passed acrossed with the characters of Anna and Rafael- yes, men can be raped, not only bad girls get raped, and it is not just the weak that get raped or exploited-which is contrary to fallacious beliefs of the society. The least thing I like about the book is the character of Brian Simmons.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I gave it the rating I did because I noticed some typos-page 73, rising is spelt raising- but apart from the typos, the novel is well written. I really enjoyed it and I feel it would appeal greatly to lovers of erotic sex, teenagers and advocates of justice against abuse of all sorts and exploitation. All in all, H.M Irwing did a good job in creating such brave and captivating characters.
