Love reading books with happy endings? Then pick up a copy of "Ever After", a romance by H M Irwing. As I was reading the book I thought, another Cinderella type story; but as I continued to read I saw that it was much more.

Cindy Marshall is an independent woman set on living her life without the assistance of her wealthy father and his new family. She is no longer a child believing in fantasies, and does not believe in love and the holy state of matrimony. There is no such thing as happily ever after. Just look at her parents' marriage. In her search for independence, she takes a job at an upscale night club. It's not her ideal job; but she does have to eat and pay rent. Walking home late one night after work, she finds herself in an unpleasant situation. Coming to a quick decision, she stands her ground and hopes for the best. Fortunately for her, the Dark Prince comes to the rescue.

Julian St. John aka the Dark Prince, is a self-made billionaire and heir to the Italian Mafia King. After leaving his night club one night, he comes across Cindy in a no win situation and immediately comes to the rescue. When he drops her off at her home, his price for rescuing her surprises her. Although attracted to him, she has no intention of becoming one of his many female followers. Unbeknownst to her, their journey has just begun.

Cindy goes through a series of self-revelations as her eyes are opened to seeing that things are not what she always thought them to be. Her step-family was definitely a surprise to her. Her beliefs about family, men, and relationships in general are challenged. Throughout her journey, she finds out what having a family and being in a relationship really means. It comes down to rather or not she can accept them and if she is willing to allow them to accept her. Julian, with his take charge personality, understands Cindy more than she understands herself, and pulls out all of the stops to make her his.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Although I enjoyed the book and found some of the scenes humorous, quite a few times I found Cindy's attitude irritating. I wished that she would just grow up. It sometimes seemed as if she was making it more difficult than it had to be. During those times of immaturity and insecurity, I liked Julian's patience with her. He accepted her as she was. My favorite characters were her two step-brothers. They made the book humorous at times and I believe they made things easier for Cindy with the family.

This book is more than a love story. It is also a book about forgiveness and a young woman trying
to find her way. There are no perfect families and you don't have to share the same blood to be one. This is a book about more than the love of two people who love each other despite the obstacles in their path. It is also a book about the love of a family trying to find their happily ever after.
