Are you looking for a fun, easy read? My Trip to Adele was a quick and enjoyable novel. Three different story lines. Four different cities. One Adele concert. Who will be there?
I rate this book a three out of four stars. Although it was a good, easy read, it was not anything amazing or life changing for me. Now, upon glancing at the title, you might think My Trip to Adele is all about Adele or a book her fans would enjoy. The book is so much more than just different characters and their love for her music. Instead, it is about finding oneself. It is about reflecting on life and the choices made. Adele’s lyrics compliment these themes. The authors title each chapter after an Adele song and ends each chapter with her lyrics. If you do not know her music, you might not get the full benefit. After every chapter I had a new song stuck in my head and for me, that was part of the fun of the book. The authors R. I. Alyaseer and A. I. Alyaseer wrote this fictional story after attending an Adele concert.
One thing I really enjoyed about this book was the three different story lines interwoven into one novel. Elias, a Moroccan man, searches to try and find an old lost love. Nadia, a single mother from Jordan, plans a trip for her and her son to travel abroad to see Adele in concert. Yaser and Mariam, a couple living in Las Vegas are struggling to make their marriage work try counseling to see if they can rekindle their love. Although the story lines are all different, the one thing they have in common is their connection to Adele’s music. Each chapter rotates back and forth between these three story lines.
Although I enjoyed the different stories, I can’t say I loved or connected with any of the characters. Don’t get me wrong, it was interesting to read about the characters and I was never bored with them, but sometimes they were hard for me to like! I was upset with Elias and did not approve of his relationship. The whole time Yaser and Mariam were trying to work out their problems, I was rooting for them to get a divorce instead! I did like Nadia’s character but it was hard for me to connect with her circumstances.
Overall, if you’re looking for a fun, easy read, check it out! This book may not be one of my favorites, but I do not regret the time I spent reading it! In other recommendations, if you aren’t familiar with Adele’s music you should probably listen to that too! Not that’s it’s necessary for the book, but it’s certainly more enjoyable!
