The Legacy of Job’s Wife by Cynthia Koelker is a retail of Job’s story from the Bible. As a religious person, I entered this book with a curious mind and was intrigued by the author’s idea of writing this book with a splash of creativity. I was mesmerized to understand that the author did write Job’s story through the eyes of his wife Ixises, as it is such a creative and intriguing idea that contributes to a new form of telling old stories with a set of fresh eyes and the introduction of undeveloped characters.

After emerging into these fascinating characters while we follow their growth and life of abundance and love, I was excited to see how the book would turn out. It did not disappoint; after love, abundance, friendship, and marriage, the author inserts a few obstacles here and there, such as diseases and loss, that slowly aggravate, leaving the reader in the same state of sorrow and sadness as the characters.

I loved how this book describes precisely how sometimes even the most religious people start to question their devotion and faith considering the harsh phases they have to go through in life. This is not an easy or diplomatic topic, but the author managed to write about it in a poetic and considerate manner.

I believe the pace could be better, as some of the topics should be summarized to not tire the reader. Besides this point, which is merely subjective, the book has no other flaws or imperfections, which leads me to attribute 4 out of 5 stars to this great book. I also didn't find a single error, which is commendable, and the editing was flawless.

Nevertheless, I believe some harsh topics can consist of triggers and therefore might not be the cup of tea for everyone. Regardless, I would recommend this book to both religious and non-religious people who have an open mind to be confronted with some faith-challenging topics as well as a rare and magic form of love and strength from these characters and the beautiful family they created.
