The book Yesterday is a story of love, reincarnation, pain, loss and perseverance in the face of numerous trials.

The book follows the story of Amanda and Mark - two strangers who met through an accident and fell in love only to realise later that there was something strange about their relationship . In a quest to find out more about this strangeness, they sought the help of therapy which took them back in time.

The author's use of time as a tool to help us understand relationships and history was truly remarkable. Through Amanda's subconscious journey, the reader is taken back to the 19th century, to a time of war and loss .

The author displays an enviable knowledge of the subject matter on which the story is based. Issues like history and characters' emotional responses are deeply explored to make the story real and interesting. This is further enhanced by the vivid and deep descriptions of events and people. It is almost as if we are part of the story.

As a character who has been through so much loss and emotional turmoil, Amanda is well developed. Her character is used to show the reader about love and loss which are some of the sad realities of life. Indeed ,for her, the fear of loving only to lose is as real as everything around her.

To balance this fear of Amanda's, the author gives us Mark, a strong man who faces various dangers in his line of work yet isn't afraid to take a leap into the unknown. His feelings for Amanda were strong and sure from the moment he met her and nothing could deter him from his goal of loving her.

The book Yesterday makes an interesting read especially for lovers of history and suspense. From the first page, the reader is gripped by a feeling of mystery surrounding the major characters. Little by little, through past life regression therapy, their stories were unraveled to us alongside the stories of their ancestors and the city. The author sends us into the past without the complexities of time machines and time travel.

Although the plot is beautifully written, I observed that at the beginning of the novel scenes were disjointed. Also , I wonder why Samyann didn't develop other characters aside Mark and Amanda. It would have been interesting to get more information on the other characters.

I recommend this book to all readers. It is a remarkable blend of the past and the now in one story. A book that is capable of making you cry and laugh while learning so much. I rate this book three out of four stars.
