Review of Guilty of Stealing His Heart
Guilty of Stealing His Heart tells a story about Carrie, who is left in an orphanage in Ohio around the year 1840. This story weaves around how this abandonment shapes Carrie's life and character. There is a bit of relief when she marries Phillip, but when his criminal activities are exposed, she's left in shambles. In search of happiness and a new life, Carrie leaves for California. There, she encounters an ex-Pinkerton detective who is out for vengeance. The two bond through the constant hardship and danger they face together; the addition of 12-year-old Billy makes this situation harder, more challenging, and more challenging, testing their patience. This historical fiction revolves around the characters, the challenges faced, and how each person's past threatens to disrupt their present.
I really enjoyed the character development and almost immediately fell in love with Carrie because it was quite touching how Carrie's character grew from a distressed child to a caring and loving lady. A beautiful plot I enjoyed in the story was the enemies-to-lovers plot between the protagonist, Carrie, and JT, the ex-Pinkerton detective; it kept me engaged. I liked that the story had depth; the writer went deep into explaining each character's life, adding interesting bulk to the novel. Details about JT's past, Billy's past, and even bits about the best friend JT was avenging were given. I would say that a lot of background stories about the characters made the story come to life, as I could relate to and feel each and every experience shared during the story.
The book is really one-of-a kind. I loved the bible verses the writer was dropping at the end of each chapter. The Christian influence was refreshing and contributed to the book being an overall inspiration. Also, I liked that the novel gave us glimpses into what life in the 1800s was like; these little details were all I needed to time travel and relate to each and every thought the author visualized while writing this story. The fact that Carrie's father abandoned her at an orphanage because he would have preferred a boy to be able to work on his farm rather than her, a girl, was a painful reality that made me stick to reading the book to know how life turned out for her.
The author's ability to give good life lessons through what the characters went through is quite commendable. In all, I had zero dislike for the book except that the feeling of anticipation was quite annoying as great details were not revealed from the start, but it was well worth it as the ending didn't disappoint.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars as I found it to be the best book I have read this month. It is indeed a great read for every lover of beautiful stories. Nancy Lynn White’s pen game was indeed second to none, as I found this book so engrossing and enjoyable. The editing was also superb, as I found it hard to spot errors while reading. This book is highly recommended for girls who are going through some form of oppression or discrimination. It would appeal much more to Christians, too.
