My Trip to Adele is plotted around three key protagonists from Rome, Las Vegas and Jordan, who all have one thing in common: a dissatisfaction in their lives and relationship while they find consolation and encouragement in the soothing words of Adele’s music. They all have come to the conclusion that attending her concert in Verona, Italy would restore their happiness. This is further emphasized by lyrics from Adele’s songs which forms the theme and conclusion of every chapter.

The book is co-authored by R. I. Alyaseer and A. I. Alyaseer, who are siblings, and are both obsessed by Adele’s latest album, 25. So much so that they attended her concert at Verona and were inspired to write this novel. Their two other novels which they wrote in Arabic in 2011 and 2014 were not accepted by traditional publishers. Yet this did not deter their dream of becoming authors. So this time they decided to translate it into English and self-publish it.

When Elias encounters a fortune teller in Rome who tells him he is under a spell from his previous relationship, and that he must go back to El-Fnaa Square, Marrakesh where it all began so as to break the spell, he finds himself going in search of Malika, a girl he met eight years ago and who he found impossible to shake off his mind. Would he ever meet her again? Or would she by any chance be at Adele’s concert? How would he get the ticket to the concert as it was sold out already?

Yasser and Mariam, are both medical practitioners in Las Vegas. After eight years of marriage, they consulted Dr. Brown, a well-known marriage counselor who gave them the task of identifying and reviving any past memorable experience as a first step to fixing their marriage which was getting cold. They eventually came up with the day Yasser proposed to Mariam. This led to Yasser booking a trip to Adele’s concert in Verona, Italy for himself and Mariam to mark their forthcoming eighth wedding anniversary.

In Jordan lives Nadia, a divorced mother with a 10 year old son, Waleed, whom she has promised a trip to Adele’s concert in Verona as a birthday present. She has made it very clear to all that her freedom is non-negotiable. Not even her job can stop her from expressing her deep felt desire. When her son’s welfare and happiness was involved she was willing to pay any price.

The authors have succeeded in creating a suspense filled fiction romance novel. This book is captivating. It has demonstrated the extent to which people can go when they have their mind fixed. The key characters from each of the three legs of the story have demonstrated firmness of character which carries with it moral lessons. Worthy of mention is Elias, who would not abuse the 13 years old child prostitute, Malika.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I would have rated it 4 out of 4 stars if not for a couple of typos. It was well edited. It is informative, interesting and highly recommendable

I found those few errors as well and kind of felt that it was maybe from the translation. Good review. I enjoyed the book myself. I wasn't an Adele fan before but find myself questioning if I should be. Thanks for your review

Thanks KeriCraven. I must say I have been converted into an Adele Fan. The authors did a wonderful job projecting Adele as having a word for every situation. You might be tempted to wonder if Adele did not sponsor the book.

I have read several reviews for this book and am still yet to make a decision to read it. It's very encouraging From the Alyaseers that even with their books unpublished, they never gave up. Nice review.

Trust Adele to be the solution (even when seeking personal fulfillment :D ). I love how relatable the characters are, I think we can relate to being unsatisfied with life. Thank you for the great review.
