My Trip to Adele by R.I. Alyaseer and A.I. Alyaseer is a fiction book about 3 people in 3 different part of the world. The Story follows their struggles in everyday life. Each and every one of them tries to find themselves, try to find happiness in the mixture of their belief system.
The first story is about Elias, who is a Moroccan descent lives in Rome. He finds himself traveling back to his favorite city, Morocco, with its spices, myths, and legends, to find a girl named Malika, who he met and fell in love 8 years before.
The second story is about Nadia, who lives in Jordan, a single mother raising her son. The only thing she wants is to make her son happy and take him to his favorite singer, Adele, for his B-day. But there are different obstacles in her way and she has to decide, which is more important to her? To make a stand against her ex-husband or to be with her son?
The third story is about Yaser, a Dr., who lives in Las Vegas, with his wife and two kids. His marriage is there when they have to decide if it's worth saving it or just to walk away. His beliefs are so opposite of his wife, he is drowning in guilt and he feels suffocated by everything around him. To revive his marriage in a final attempt, he decides to take his wife to Adele's concert.
While reading My Trip to Adele, I felt a deep connection with Elias. He was deeply in love with the woman, his Malika but because of the circumstances, he had to let her go. Eight years later, he felt a pull to go back to Morocco where everything started. To find out what's happened to her? And to remember, they are supposed to meet again at Adele's concert. Did she make it? Did they find each other again? That is the question.
All three story was masterfully written. In each story I felt I was with them, following their every move, feeling their confusion, sadness and understanding their beliefs. Their story touched me deeply. The only thing I wish is to read each story all at once, instead of going back and forth between them. It was confusing at first because of that and each story was so good, I felt it was not necessary.
The authors also did an outstanding job by describing the culture and belief system of Morocco. The lives of the Jordanians through Nadia and her struggle as a single mother and woman in a man's world and about the atheist Dr. who married a woman who was so deeply into her religion, he feels losing himself after years of monotony and just goes with the flow.
I loved the fact Adele's songs were put into different sections of the book just at the right time to bring back memories, to show us their feelings deeper by reading the lyrics as well. I rate this book 4 out of 4. The author siblings did an excellent job putting this book together and I am happy, they didn't give up after they were turned down by a regular publisher.
