Welcome to My Hole by Daniel Shea is a short screenplay novel based around his travels to pursue his love interest, Bethel, overseas.
This book is my first out-of-syllabus screenplay novel, in which the writer has included a lot of pictorial illustrations about his travels to Eritrea and pursuing his love interest, Bethel. Not much is described about characters. The pictorial illustrations, song tracks, and lyrics dominate the work in the novel.
It is a family-friendly fictional out-of-format screenplay, which is written in the book's disclaimer itself.
However, it was written by the writer when he was quite unwell, and if it is not his humor, I really admire the author's grit for having written this book. But I am confused and unclear if the book really starts with the author waking up from a coma or if it was his genuine experience because there is no connection between this scene and the next chapter.
I really liked the pictorial illustrations that describe the novel way better than the writings in it. It has a very rich description of the culture and tribes of Africa. Not one, two, or three, but many tribes.
I, however, am personally unable to deeply appreciate the novel because I am not used to reading books with so many pictures and sound tracks. I think that this book has just been written in a bit of a hurry, or as the writer has claimed that he wasn't perfectly well when he wrote this book or was just extending the satire to the disclaimer part as well, I might as well say that this book had me confused and it could've been better. The characters could've been described more, the coherence between the chapters could've been better, and the abrupt changes in the circumstances of the book could've been avoided. The tone was too satirical for me, which is, I guess, my first read in the form of a book about political and international conditions.
All in all, the book might be dominated by pictures and many soundtracks, but it does contain a written description too, where visuals are described, and it is a well-thought-out but a little poorly executed book because, in my personal opinion, books are better when you can imagine what's been described, but when you see the pictures, it totally differs from your imagination, and that is the deal breaker for me.  And a few of the pictures were very different from what was being described, so it would be a 2-star book only.
