Review of My Trip To Adele
“My Trip to Adele is a book” like no other. This is a story with three different points of view, three different stories in three different countries. It is the story of three different people, who belong to different cultures or religions, whose situations (both economical and romantic) are completely different but, somehow, they have something in common... Love. It might not be in a romantic or marital way, but they all love Adele.
I could list many reasons why I enjoyed reading this book; such as its structure. The novel is formed by twenty-five short chapters, which make the reading very entertaining as well as it provides the readers the feeling of progress while they read. Another excellent thing about the book is the refreshing opportunity to learn about a different religion thanks to the well written explanations and the reliable information provided by the authors. And last but not least, I must mention how the different types of love are represented in this novel, because when we think about the word “love”, it always means falling in love, getting married or finding our soulmate. However, “love” also refers to the love of a mother to her child, an undeniable past love or even the love of a marriage that is falling apart. Besides, at the ending of each chapter, there is a piece of one of Adele’s songs that summarises perfectly the chapter.
In addition, I really liked how this story reflects the reality in many ways. It shows the suffering of women in many cultures, how bad they are treated and how their voices and opinions are suppressed. In my opinion, it is vital to show people this sad reality. Moreover, in the novel day-to-day doubts are represented, such as religious doubts.
Despite all the good things of this book, there is something that I did not like at all. Since every time a chapter started, the narrator was a different person, it was very difficult to understand the storyline. The only thing that could give the reader a hint was that instead of a characters’ name, at the beginning of the chapter there was written a country. Nevertheless, the main characters are always travelling, therefore that detail did not really help. I think that the authors should write who the narrator is in each chapter.
In sum, I really enjoyed reading this book because I think that I learned a lot thanks to it. I would only change the detail that I mentioned before. As a result, I would give this novel a rating of 4 out of 5.
